The birthday is tomorrow. The exact thing is on your shelf. The search sent them to the mall.

Gift and specialty retail is the long tail of Main Street: the kitchen store, the gift shop, the toy boutique, the stationer, the candle maker with a storefront. Each one stocks things the chains don't — and each one loses the search for those things, because the chain publishes a feed. Zachcart publishes your real, in-stock inventory to Google Search and Maps, AI answers and the delivery apps, synced from the register you already run.

Specialty retail is the-exact-thing retail.

Nobody searches "gift shop near me" at 8pm the night before a birthday. They search the thing — the brand of candle, the puzzle, the cast-iron pan, the specific card game — and go where the phone says it is. The phone knows the chain and the marketplace, because they published a feed. It doesn't know you, because your register was built to ring the sale, not to tell Google about the shelf. Search one of your best sellers plus "near me." If the big box or the marketplace shows up and you don't, that's the dark shelf.

63 systems · 6 connected

Specialty is the catch-all of independent retail, and it shows in the systems: 63 in our research, from the small-store cloud registers (Square, Clover, Shopify POS, Lightspeed, Rain, WooPOS, KORONA) through the mid-market platforms (Celerant, Counterpoint, Retail Pro, ERPLY, Runit) to the enterprise suites regional chains run. Six are connected to Zachcart today, and the discontinued systems are listed because stores are still on them.

What this mix means for your store

Three things to read in this table. First, specialty has the best Google coverage of any vertical: nine systems appear on Google's free local inventory list (Clover, Lightspeed, Square, Rain POS, WooPOS, RMH, J3, Paladin and Auto-Star), so a specialty store has a fair chance its register can already push items to its Business Profile — and stops there. No specialty-built system reports a retail delivery connector; Square's, Clover's and Lightspeed's are restaurant products. Second, the six connected systems (Square, Clover, Shopify POS, Lightspeed, Celerant and NCR Counterpoint) are the ones most independent gift and specialty stores run, so most can connect by API without waiting for a build. Third, two systems on the list are end-of-life — QuickBooks Point of Sale, discontinued in 2023, and Microsoft Dynamics RMS, out of support since 2021 — and stores still on them are the clearest case for a connector that reads the database rather than waiting for an API that will never come.

If your register tracks a sale, we can put it online

Square, Clover, Shopify POS, Lightspeed and the cloud registers connect by API. Counterpoint, Retail Pro, RMS and the Windows systems connect by remote connector, including the end-of-life systems no vendor supports anymore.

POS integrationsHow local inventory works
Connecting a POS during setup

Four outcomes. One connection.

01

Your in-stock gifts, kitchen goods, toys, cards and candles on Google Search and Maps when someone nearby asks for the exact thing.

02

Product pages under your store's name — clean data, live stock, no website project.

03

Your shelf as an answer AI assistants can cite when someone asks "who has [brand] near me, open now."

04

No dark orders: the last one sells and it's off the feed within a minute.

For wholesalers and sales reps

Sell through hundreds of independent gift and specialty stores? One agreement puts every stockist in the answer, and your reps get a consented, live read on sell-through at the shelf.

For distributors & co-ops

Still have a question? Ask us
That's the normal case in specialty, and it's exactly what a feed is for. New arrivals publish when you receive them; sold-through items disappear when the last one sells. Nothing to update by hand.
