They asked the phone where to get it tonight. The chain answered. Your aisle didn't.

Independent grocers and markets stock what the chains don't — the imported brands, the local produce, the halal, kosher or Latin aisle — and lose the search anyway, because the chain publishes a feed and the independent's register doesn't. Zachcart publishes your real, in-stock inventory to Google Search and Maps, AI answers and the delivery apps, synced from the system you already run.

Grocery is specific-item retail with a very short fuse.

The search isn't "grocery store near me." It's the brand of masa, the dumplings from the one importer, the oat milk the chain stopped carrying. People search the item and go where the phone says it is, and the phone only knows the stores with a published feed. Your edge is the assortment and the neighborhood; the chain's edge is the feed. Search one of your signature items plus "near me." If the chain two miles out appears and you don't, that's the dark shelf.

Grocery has the second-largest system set in our research — 54 systems, from the enterprise lane systems (Toshiba, NCR Emerald, Oracle Xstore, Diebold Nixdorf) through the independent-grocer specialists (ECRS CATAPULT, LOC, IT Retail, Markt, Vori, DUMAC, TRUNO) to the general registers small markets run. What this mix means for your store

Grocery is the vertical where delivery and search have gone furthest apart. Several grocery-built systems report native delivery plumbing: Vori reports DoorDash and Instacart, IT Retail and Markt report Instacart, NRS POS reports DoorDash and Uber Eats, POS Nation, FTx and AdvEnt report DoorDash, and DUMAC and TRUNO reach Instacart only through its smart cart. On the search side, Google's free local inventory list reaches only the general registers and two legacy systems (Clover, Square, Auto-Star, pcAmerica, RMH) — none of the grocery specialists. Eighteen of the 54 systems don't publish how they're deployed, which in grocery usually means a local server behind the lanes. So the typical independent grocer has one delivery app, no Google presence, and a count that lives on a back-office server. One connection carries the lane count to every channel, and a sold-out item is off every feed within a minute.

If your register tracks a sale, we can put it online

Lane systems and back-office servers — CATAPULT, LOC, the Toshiba and NCR installs, the Windows registers — connect by remote connector. Cloud systems like Vori, IT Retail, Markt, Clover and Square connect by API. Scale items, PLU and weighted goods publish as your register tracks them.

POS integrationsHow local inventory works
Connecting a POS during setup

Four outcomes. One connection.

01

Your in-stock items on Google Search and Maps when someone nearby asks for a brand or a product the chain doesn't carry.

02

Product pages under your store's name — clean data, live stock, no website project.

03

Your aisle as an answer AI assistants can cite for "where can I get [item] tonight near me."

04

Order-ready pipes to the delivery apps you don't have yet, from the same count, so one sale at the lane updates every channel.

For wholesalers and co-ops

Serve hundreds of independent grocers? One agreement puts the whole network in the answer — and gives your reps a consented, live view of the shelves they serve.

Yes. We publish what the register tracks, in the unit it tracks. Many grocers start with center-store and specialty aisles and open produce later.
